COOPERATIVE CHRISTIAN MINISTRY'S BOLD NEW INITIATIVE WILL CREATE TWO NEW TRANSITIONAL HOUSING CAMPUSES TO PROVIDE A PATH TO STABILITY FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN HOUSING CRISIS.

The Rebuilders College is a partnership between our community and Cooperative Christian Ministry (CCM) to establish new transitional housing capacity that will help individuals and families experiencing homelessness and housing crisis, with stable housing, nutritional support and access to resources that promote positive outcomes.

GRACE PLACE AT CAREMOOR

Grace Place at Caremoor will not only be designed to support our neighbors who are elderly or disabled, but the campus will also support families with children.

These Senior Adults in our community are:

  • Extremely low income
  • Able to live independently
  • In housing crisis
  • Living in borrowed space
  • Being used for their stable income
  • Forced out by increasing rent
  • Living in constant fear

Without stable housing, a family cannot safely store and prepare food, they cannot establish adequate sleep or maintain proper hygiene. Without the stability of housing, it is nearly impossible for children to be successful in school or for adults to maintain the expectations of employment.  Parents cannot support the dynamics to nurture family life or participation in community.

Without stable housing, there is no rehabilitation and NO recovery.

  • HOUSING STABILITY is identified as one of the greatest UNMET needs. One of the top-3 strategic planning focuses of our municipalities, our school systems, our public health authority and our hospital system is HOUSING STABILITY.

  • An INCREASE of 350-500 TOTAL BEDS are needed to meet the CURRENT homelessness need in Cabarrus County (Source: A 5-Year Prospectus; Solving the Housing Crisis Publication - 2019).

  • Cabarrus County & Kannapolis City Schools identify over 500 students being homeless at some point throughout a given school year (800 people in more than 200 families).

  • More than 1,800 HOUSEHOLDS in Cabarrus County exist on EXTREMELY-LOW-INCOME (ELI).

IN OUR COMMUNITY TODAY:

  • CCM received an average of 20 application per month of families seeking housing in 2021, and 38 per month in 2022 … a 90% INCREASE.

  • Local providers estimates over 360 individuals are sleeping in tents, vehicles or other public spaces in Concord and Kannapolis (an 80% INCREASE in the last two years).

  • The Chamber; Leading Business in Cabarrus, the City of Concord, the City of Kannapolis, Cabarrus Health Alliance, Atrium Health Cabarrus, Cabarrus County Schools & Kannapolis City Schools ALL identified HOUSING STABILITY as one of their top-3 strategic planning community focuses.

  • CCM estimates its current capacities to serve approximately 10% of the need for housing services. These housing solutions are designed to replicate our current path to stability model and expand capacity within CCM’s programs to increase capacity by 400%.

  • CCM is uniquely capable of establishing additional safe, transitional housing and improving access to housing resources for individuals and families facing homelessness and housing crisis in Cabarrus County and Southern Rowan County.
